Disaster Relief

 

 Psalms 4: 18  But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. Another opportunity has been presented to Indiana Disaster Relief teams to travel that path of the just and let our light shine by doing what we have been trained and equipped to do and minister to the needs of folks in Minot, North Dakota that have been effected by the recent flooding in that area. Our departure date is set for Monday July 25. I have been informed that up to 4000 homes are effected by the flood waters and at least 100 work requests have already come into the command center.

 

REPORT ON JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI  March 25, 2011   Verse of the day: Ephesians 6:10-11 (HCSB) “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.”   Following is a summary of actions taken to date by Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in response to the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Within 48 hours of the initial earthquake the first assessment team, consisting of a BGR-affiliated person (disaster relief specialist) and IMB leadership, was on the ground in Japan meeting with IMB personnel and Japan Baptist partners. Due to the chaos associated with the event and especially the radiation concerns, this team was limited in the scope of what they could do outside of beginning to organize response channels through Japanese partners/organizations. A second assessment team with a mandate of initiating responses was formed and arrived in Japan today. It consists of two (2) BGR staff and two State DR Network staff (Alabama and South Carolina). They will be looking at how Southern Baptist Disaster Relief can partner with the Japan Baptist Convention, Tokyo Baptist Church and others to meet the needs of the Japanese people. Some geiger counters and dosimeters have been made available to our people on the ground and more will be supplied in the near future. Following is the latest report from FEMA concerning the status of EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTERS in various states distributed early Friday morning Feb 4, 2011:  

New Jersey, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas State EOCs remain partially activated or in monitoring status.

Storm related fatalities were confirmed in Indiana (4), Illinois (4), Texas (1) and Oklahoma (1). 

As of Thursday afternoon and evening 2,800 customers were without power in Indiana, 7,000 customers were without power in Illinois, 8,600 customers were without power in Texas, 9,100 customers were without power in Pennsylvania, and 24,500 customers were without power in Ohio. Power restoration is ongoing, and all outages are expected to be restored by Sunday.

American Red Cross shelters remained open Wednesday night in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,

Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, with 170 or fewer occupants in each state.
